For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows grace and favor and glory - honor, splendor and heavenly bliss! No good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly.

Totally Yummy Brownies!

Ever see a picture in a magazine and think to yourself, "Oh those look GOOD! I bet I could make that!"?

And then you rush to the store, buy all the ingredients, and sit and wait for an excuse to make them?

And it takes you less than 5 minutes to find an excuse? (I'm hormonal, I need them NOW!!!)

And then you spend the next 3 hours making them?

And then... well...

They just don't turn out looking the same as they do in the magazine?

Happens to me ALL the time!

Thankfully, they still tasted pretty dang awesome. So awesome in fact that Hubs wouldn't let me take them to that MOY Luncheon. Because they were simply too yummy to share.

But maybe I'm not the best judge of what's yummy and what's not at this point in time. My hormonal womanly spiddey sense is so strong right now that I could sniff out a chocolate bar in a random stranger's pocket from 50 feet away.

I kid you not.

But I digress...

I'm not sure you should try this brownie recipe, it really does take a full 3 hours to make. Three hours. And although they really are fantastic, I'm thinking you could easily skip the top two layers, just make the nice thick gooey brownie layer, add some chocolate chips, and it would be just as fabulous. Plus it would only take 30 minutes.

So here is the recipe for just that one single decadent layer plus chips. If you have an extra 2.5 hours feel free to make the frosting and add that chocolate layer... but you really don't have to. I think the brownie is good enough to stand on it's own.

WonderTime's Layered Brownie sans Top 2 Layers

1/2 cup unsalted butter
6 ounces unsweetened chocolate (yes, you want the unsweetened for sure, trust me)
2 cups of sugar (see, it'll get plenty sweet)
4 large eggs
1/8 teaspoon of salt
1 cup flour
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup chocolate chips (any kind you like)

Heat oven to 300 degrees. Grease a 9x13 pan and line it with buttered parchment or wax paper cut to fit the bottom of the pan. Melt the stick of butter and chocolate in a small pan over very low heat, or in a double boiler. Remove from heat. While the mixture cools, beat together the sugar, eggs, and salt for 8 minutes in an electric mixer. Fold in the chocolate mixture, then the flour and vanilla. Lastly add flour coated (so they won't sink to the bottom of the pan) chocolate chips. Pour batter into prepared pan and bake until the mixture pulls away from the sides of the pan, about 30 minutes. Cool thoroughly, about an hour and a half. These brownies are VERY gooey and best served cold.
