For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows grace and favor and glory - honor, splendor and heavenly bliss! No good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly.

Aloha Friday!

Last week I participated in Aloha Friday over at An Island Life. It was a lot of fun, I met a lot of new bloggers, and I had my largest group of visitors to my blog ever! So I've decided to do it again this week. :)

From An Island Life:

In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So I thought that on Fridays I would take it easy on posting, too. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response.

If you'd like to participate in Aloha Friday just head on over to her blog. :)

My question this week is:

If you have/had toddlers living in your house, what are some fun age-appropriate activities that you did with them? I did some google searches last night to find some new things to do with the girls, but I didn't find anything particularly exciting. My girls are 21 months old, and so far they're non-verbal (we're starting Early Intervention soon). Any ideas??? I could totally use the help here.

Hi Amy! So glad I found your blog. I love hearing about other MOT's. This question could yeld a lenghty response but I'll try to keep it short :) Toddlers are fun and love simple things. My girls LOVED shaving cream at this age. Just a few squirts on the table and some cars to roll into it and they were happy! If you celebrate Easter why not have them play with easter eggs, practice hunting them, tossing them, etc...
They love to tear paper too! You can have them tear tissue paper then glue it to wax paper. I put a paper frame around it and called it stained glass.
OK, I told you I can get on a roll with this! My last favorite is homemade playdough (just salt and flour so it's safe if they eat it!)
Good Luck and Have fun!!

WOW! Well you have twins as well.. how old are they? Mine will be 5 in 5 days, yay! We do different things depending on age. Right now, I am focusing on them going to kindergarten, so we are doing colors, their names, abc's. We have been doing things to gear them towards school and get them ready. When they were smaller we did blocks, cognitive things. Again, it just depends on what age you are referring too!

I love the shaving cream idea, we used to do that when I worked at teh preschool...since they are so little you may want to try whipped cream (the kind in the bottle) that way if they put it in their mouths it won't hurt them...and until they do put it in their mouth they won't know it tastes so yummy :)

I would also say getting those magnetic ltters and an old cookie sheet, and then they can play with them on there...instead of having to be only at the fridge.

If you want help with the verbal part email me and I can give you some pointers...I taught preschool, kindergarten and 3rd grade...and have had to do some things with this...

when did you start your bed time routine with your girls?

This mommy blog I was visiting the other day had a good idea.

Her son liked to scoop water out and put into another container. So she changed it up a bit.

3 bowls with water.

1 bowl each she dropped a drop of yellow food coloring.

The other bowl blue coloring.

And they scooped to see how the different colors changed.

I don't know if that's too much but I'm going to try that with my 2 year old and see how she likes it. :)

That's a tough one. My kids are happy just playing with an empty cardboard box!

I used some pudding & made fun colors that my little ones could play w/. Also, & only w/ strict adult supervision!!, I would play bounce the balloon in the house. Mine always had a blast w/ that but I always popped the balloon & hid the remains from my kids.

HAHA.. My twins are 16 months... and right now... what DON'T they get into... hahahaha... As for entertainment... I don't know... making mommy insane... That usually gets a chuckle or two from them.. But when I TRY to entertain them??? We have plastic waterproof books, we bought several and they have them in the tub, I have some in our "Eat-Out" bag (bibs, diapers, snack etc.. to entertain while at restaurant).. but that has helped a LITTLE with the vocab too...

"Wash" or "give toys a bath" in kitchen sink (waterproof ones!), shaving cream on a pan (or in the bathtub), dump cornmeal (or some other grainy substance) on a cookie sheet with rim and let them put toys in it. Bathtub paint.

Shameless Confession:

Bath! tots love water and when mine were small (er) I used bath time as an activity. Not me...them! Bonus: everyone was clean in the end!

Thanks for posting the blog party link looks like fun!
I have four kiddos youngest
now 3. I think homemade playdough is great. Something new I did this year was put beans into a large plastic tub with some toys. It became an indoor sandbox of sorts, little messy but fun.

We just started drawing (I have a 20 month old). We get out a large sheet of butcher paper and go at it! He loves it...
