For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows grace and favor and glory - honor, splendor and heavenly bliss! No good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly.

Turkey Tips - Aloha Friday!

From An Island Life

In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So I thought that on Fridays I would take it easy on posting, too. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response.

If you'd like to participate with your own question on your own blog, head on over to An Island Life to link up and join the fun!

So I'm hosting Thanksgiving for the very first time this year, and as a result I'm roasting my very first turkey. Anyone have any great turkey tips for me?

I'm sorry I don't have any useful tips, we always have one of the pre-cooked turkeys that you just have to reheat :-)

Sorry I have actually never cooked a turkey before! Good luck! One piece of advice I'd give - make sure you are eating! It's easy to get wrapped up in the stress of hosting and forget!

I've never cooked a turkey, so I'm no help at all!

Make sure you take out all the stuff they pack into the middle!

I love the ones with the button that pops up when its done. Also, I always use a turkey bag. It's the plastic bag that you cook the turkey in. It really helps with the mess! Good luck. And don't forget to defrost if you get a frozen turkey.

I'm spoiled, I don't have to cook for Thanksgiving but I do like to celebrate-make sure you enjoy everyone, sometimes when your hosting you get so caught up in preparing you forget to enjoy each others company.

I don't have any ideas for you, but I'm anxious to read what people share with you.

Have a nice weekend.

I'm seriously considering trying the Safeway 2 Hour Turkey this year, it has rave reviews. I'll email you the recipe.

My mom usually cooks the turkey, one tip is start early, it takes a long time to cook, they usually have it in the oven like at 6 am., and they cover it with aluminum foil for about half the time. And baste it a lot.

Those are some tips I can think of. Good luck :)

I agree with Olga - Cook it upside down.
Otherwise, don't sweat it; it's really not that hard. Just make sure you get it out early enough to thaw. Calculate the time the day of and let it sit in the oven.
You can do it!

I have never cooked a turkey...so I'm not help there! But, I would suggest defrosting it the night before. I know, a "duh" piece of advice...but my mom forgot to one year and we waited a loooooooooong time for dinner that Thanksgiving!

I've hosted Thanksgiving at our home the last 2 years and everyone loved the turkey!! I used Alton Brown's recipe (you know, the guy from the Food Network)

Google it (Alton Brown thanksgiving turkey recipe) and I'm sure it'll pop up. It is THE best recipe by far....the turkey was really juicy and flavorful!
